The Role:

Mergon UK are currently hiring a Health and Safety Lead to join our team in Blackburn. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all statutory Health and Safety Regulations and proactively driving benchmark performance in terms of Health and Safety. You will be the lead for all things Health and Safety for the site, spending the majority of your working hours in the production and warehouse areas, where you will identify risks, improve processes, and champion a culture of safety across all teams. Ideally you will have previous experience in a high-risk engineering or manufacturing environment. 

It is a great opportunity for someone who has been supporting H&S activities and has hands-on experience with risk assessments, audits, and implementing safety policies, and is now ready to take on more ownership and responsibility at site level. Previous management experience is not required, making this an ideal step-up role for a junior or early-career H&S professional looking to progress into a more autonomous position. 


Hours of Work:

8.15am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday, one early finish at 1pm (day tbc), 45 minutes unpaid lunch break. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage the Health and Safety inhouse System, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and driving best practices across the site.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to maintain high safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure all processes, equipment, and changes meet health and safety requirements.
  • Lead investigations into accidents with a focus on root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Share and benchmark safety best practices within the wider group.
  • Take charge of emergency response teams and procedures, ensuring readiness for any situation.
  • Deliver engaging and regular health and safety training programmes, tailored to the needs of the team.
  • Update the Safety Statement and carry out Risk Assessments, while supporting others in conducting their own assessments.


Skills & Experience:

 

To be successful in this role you will likely have:

 

  • Experience in a Health and Safety role, ideally in a high-risk engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Experience implementing and leading Health and Safety initiatives
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management System
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence others and work as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
